Free Summer Storytelling Events

This summer the Stirling Smith is hosting a series of free events for children aged 3 -11 years.

Join Jackie Smith and she recounts the tale of The Gruffalo in Scots and shares the difficulties in being a Stickman in two storytelling sessions aimed at 3-7 year olds.

8 – 11 year olds can get to grips with the lesser known history of  Stirling and its residents, in ‘Ancient Secrets of Stirling’ or hear more about The School for Show Offs.

Please book children’s spaces only – adults do not need to book.

3 – 7 years              The Gruffalo in Scots

Meet the Gruffalo and find oot whit a Tod is!  More than storytelling.  Using music, movement and song, meet the characters from the story and learn some Scots words.  Everyone loves Gruffalo time!


8 – 11 years           BBC 500 Words and The School for Show-Offs

Some of the very best of BBC’s top stories written by children. They will surprise you and make you laugh. The School for Show-Offs is a  taster of one girl’s struggle against a weird relative in a world of spoiled-rotten children of superstars.


3 – 7 years              Stickman

 Stick Man lives in the family tree with his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three. But it’s dangerous being a Stick Man!  A dog wants to play with him, a swan builds her nest with him. He even ends up on a fire! Will he ever get back to the family tree?  With added music, movement and songs.  Great fun!


8 – 11 years           Ancient Secrets of Stirling 

True stories from old Stirling that will shock and surprise you. Crammed full of real facts and deadly deeds. Will the surgeon from Edinburgh save the 4 year old dying child of the richest family in Stirling?  Why is Oswald cat utterly world famous?  Just how awful was life in the bad old days?
