Stories of Art at the Smith
Stories of Art at the Smith recommences in the Lecture Theatre on Thursday 16th February 2017.
Lecture times are 2.00pm to 4.00pm, with a break for coffee, tea and biscuits about halfway.
Ten meetings are in the Spring block and they are consecutive weekly talks:
February: 16; 23;
March: 2; 9; 16; 23; 30;
April: 6; 13; 20
Themes were voted upon by students at the Autumn/Winter Stories series, and are as follows:
Firstly, we feature the powerful urban graphic combines of Robert Rauschenburg, Jasper Johns and the irreverent neo-Dada/ Pop circle who followed the heroic art of Pollock in New York, together with their influence on artists in Scotland, including Joan Eardley. Also, we examine further artists from Germany and Eastern Europe, many of whom escaped to USA, and had been influential on Rauschenburg. Delving back, our finishing theme is that of Impressionist influence in East European art.
